Fad fashion
An intense but short-lived fashion; craze. A type of clothing that comes into fashion and is out of fashion just as quick. Cheaply made and cheaply sold so that it can keep up with the quick turnaround in fashion. For example vetir is a fad fashion shop.
High Street fashion
Affordable prices for the average person, with quality clothes. High street style has been taken from the catwalk and made so that the normal person can wear them daily. From H&M to Karen Millen, these clothes can range at prices from as little as £1 to £100’s.
Ready to wear fashion
Ready to wear is a garment that you would buy straight from the designer and be able to wear the look straight away. This type of designer clothing is more affordable than couture designer collections. The lower end of the designers brands. For example French Connection has a ready to wear collection priced a lot lower than their couture items.
Couture fashion
Couture refers to the creation of exclusive custom fitted clothing. These garments are made for a certain customer. The garments are of high quality, expensive fabrics and sometimes hand sewn. Couture garments are detailed and made by the top end of fashion designers. They can take months to create one garment. A couture dress could cost thousands of pounds. An example of couture fashion is Chanel.
Avant Garde fashion
This fashion is a never before seen fashion. Usually impractical to wear, more of a statement garment. The garments are overly modern, a step into the future. Lady gaga is known for her Avant Garde fashion. These type of garments cost £1000’s just like couture.
