Project Proposal
Section 1. Working Theme/Title ‘CONFUSION’
I have decided to base my self directed project on confusion. I have chosen this theme as I feel I can find a lot of inspiration based on confusion. I can take confusion and apply it to colour, buildings, songs, artists, fashion, and patterns. I have always been inspired by the trend clashing, most people don’t understand it and are confused, which was my first pathway.
The final outcome of my project will consist off four outfits to be shown at the end of year fashion show and a portfolio reflecting my final collection. I also hope to learn new skills and to develop a greater understanding of my role as a designer. Computer skills are something I lack in, therefore I would like for this brief to help me with my adobe illustrator and Photoshop skills.
Section 2. Influences and early Ideas.
To arrive at my final outcome I will need to research from both primary and secondary resources. I will look at form and function, the design principles and different market levels to help inform my work.
I intend to gain influence from primary and secondary resources. I have decided to visit Lola loves in Liverpool, which is a boutique fashion shop, as I will gain primary research from my visit.
I watched runway fashion shows to help me have better knowledge of up and coming trends.
I also wish to carry out visits to nightclubs, as y colour theme is
linked directly to the nightlife. The colours are always dark but with bright, fun, wild elements.
I will look at designers such as Dolce and Gabbana for their current trends. But also look into brands I would find myself on par with such as three floor, which is a brand that makes its own unique clothing range, The prices are similar to what I would be selling my garments at.
Section 3. Intended techniques, media, processes and timescale.
Once I have developed my ideas and designs I will begin producing my collection, through flat pattern cutting and working on the mannequin stand as I don’t take advantage of having the stands enough. I think that I work well when I do work off the stand, and create shapes I would think of when patterning alone. From these I will produce toiles of my garments before progressing in to the final fabric. I wish to include dip dye to my fabrics instead of buying them already done. I want to put French seams to use, and experiment in difficult fabrics such as Lycra.
It will be necessary to work out an effective time management plan to guarantee successful completion of the brief.
Section 4. Proposed method of evaluation.
In my opinion evaluation allows us to grow and improve upon what we have already accomplished, without this we cannot learn and develop our skills. Therefore I will evaluate my work in several different ways. Personal self-assessment will allow me to assess how I feel about my work and how to progress; this should be carried out at several stages throughout the project. One-to-one tutorials with my tutors will also give me extra support and guidance, to encourage me to develop my work. Finally peer group critiques and presentations will give further ideas and thoughts about my work which will help inform me about how others perceive my work. I will also produce a final evaluation of my project
