Today we had our first real pattern cutting lesson, the week before was the brief launch and today was hands on. We where given several tasks to complete which related to patterning on a mannequin. The picture to the right is the outcome of my day. I learnt how to pattern on a mannequin by having a piece of fabric and fitting it to the shape wanted. My ideas began small, making a fitted bodice using darts. Then I started using different sized pieces of fabric, turning them into dresses and tops. Instead of making fitted outcomes, I draped the fabric. This image was my favourite dress piece, as it looks so complex yet it was so simple to create. I think that I work well patterning on a mannequin and will definatly use this method in the future. I learnt that I am able to come up with different shapes than my brain thinks off, as this dress was trial and error.
